Description: 1965 Volkswagen Bus - Camper Conversion $ 8,500 Here it is your chance to own a piece of history. This VW has been my daily driver and work vehicle (I�m a self employed carpenter) for almost 12 years and over 100,000 miles. I have meticulously maintained and restored it using new old stock and German parts whenever possible. There is almost nothing on this car that I have not replaced, or restored to stock. During this resurrection I have kept a log book of all the mechanical work I have done, everything from oil changes to engine replacement. Just over the past year I have had the rear wheel bearings replaced (reduction gear boxes), replaced the master cylinder (brakes), clutch and pressure plate, new heater boxes and exhaust (quiet Pac), new starter and solenoid, and the passenger side front window and seal. The engine was built and installed in July of 1998. It is a 1600 cc single port with a dog house cooler, German case (circa 1970), and German parts. This engine runs strong and cool. About 3 years ago I installed a rebuilt Solex 30 PICT-1 Carburetor, and of course it has a Bosch 009 distributor. The reduction gear boxes have been rebuilt. I put KYB gas shocks all around. The front end (steering) is very good (I replaced almost everything), and the Michelin LT195/75 R14 LTX M/S tires are like new, only a year or two old. The last set of tires I had was identical to this and lasted me almost 10 years and 70,000 miles (very straight frame). I converted the electrical system to 12 volt about 10 years ago(now you can run the engine, lights and radio all at once) with an alternator, not a generator, and much, much more. This bus is tight, and a real head turner. This Bus was recently featured in the first Russian edition of the German Volkswagen Magazine. It was the only vintage VW in the magazine. I can email the pdf to anyone who is interested. This particular Volkswagen was born in Hanover, Germany in November 1964 as the 473rd 1965 VW Type 21. It was a walk through panel van (no rear windows or interior), and was converted to a camper van with a wood paneled interior and cabinetry, a couch that pulls out into a bed, a seat with hidden storage, a pump operated water spout, an icebox with a drain, fold out tables, and 5 crank out windows with screens. It is like an E-Z camper conversion, but this is a rare or original conversion. Although I have seen many like it, I have never seen one the same. The Bus has a new Sony Xplod CDX GT310 stereo (CD, MP3, WMA, Satellite ready) a 50 watt amp, 2 90 watt 9 inch base speakers (under the couch), and two Blaupunkt 100 watt two way speakers. I very recently had new upholstery put on the back seats, and I replaced the wall to wall Berber carpet. It also has the original black and gold California license plates with the original license plate frame from the dealer (Neufeld Motors San Carlos). There is a good luck Bomber Girl painted on the passenger side by Atomizer of 8-Ball tattoo. There has been some body work done on this bus over the years. The passenger side rear wheel skirt is reconstructed with bondo. It looks ok, and this is a fairly easy torch and weld repair. There is also some light bondo on the roof. When I bought the Bus the nose had a few dents in it and some bondo. So about 10 years ago I had an old VW/ Porsche only body shop torch the old nose skin off and weld on another one (from a 1965 Bus, same original interior paint color). No one can tell, even after I tell them. As expected, this Bus also comes with a huge selection of new, used, and original parts including the original 6 volt electrical system, the original passenger door (hinge has rusted off, could be repaired), several more of the conversion van windows (very rare), many new gaskets and seals, and lots more. This is an amazing bus. It is great as a daily driver, a weekend camper, or as a special addition to your car collection.
